Do you have an older website? Do you think that it may be time to redesign your website and bring it up to date with everything that your customers need? If you feel that it is time to update your website, here are some things that you need to consider.
The Customer Needs
What do you think your customers want from your website? Are they tired of the way the website looks? Are they sick of the same graphics and no new content on the website? Get your customers opinion on your website through surveys and other things. This is a great way to find out what they want to see with your website and what needs to be changed in order to address their needs.
Content
Take a look at the content on your website. Is it old and outdated? Do you need to make some major changes to the content? This is something you really need to consider as you are redesigning the website because your customers want the most up to date information and accurate information. Content is a complete overhaul in the way that it is written down to the way in which it is portrayed.
Color and Design
The site may look boring because you only have one color on it or it may be very cluttered. Take a look at the design and the colors on the site in order to get the most out of it. Your customers may hate the site because it is confusing or they may be annoyed with the site because it has too many colors and it is distracting. Black backgrounds with white text are hard on the eyes and it is not a good idea to have this become the template you use for your site. Opt for lighter colors as backgrounds because they are much easier on the eyes and do not tend to distract the readers as much.
Use Analytics to your Advantage
To find out what features of your website are attractive you need to turn to Google Analytics or the analytics program that you are using. This will help you to see what your traffic sources are directed to and it also helps you to understand what pages need to have more emphasis placed on them. If you see that a redesign helps your web traffic to increase, you are doing a great job and you need to focus on building upon the good thing you have started. Always let the customers help you to determine what content needs to be on the side and don't look at your site emotionally because it can distract from the message of the site.
Change the Landing Pages
If you have bouncing traffic it is due to bad landing pages. You need to provide landing pages that come with the content your customers are really looking for. The landing pages may need a makeover in order to bring the right traffic to the site and they might also need to have more information. A landing page must be able to correspond with the ads that you are using to direct people to the page and you also need to focus on getting to the point quickly. Users hate it when they go to a page and they are not given the information they want within 3-5 seconds. Never send them to the homepage, this makes them search for the content and they will be less than thrilled to do this. Pay attention to what is selling and focus on getting them to a purchasing page quickly.
